The Hindi Department has been functioning in this college for more than 5 decades. Messrs. A.Gopalan, R.H.Sundaresan, M.Aloysious Money were professors of Hindi. Mr. K.S.Pranatharthiharan is heading the department since 1988. The Autonomous status was conferred on our college in the year 1978. Then onwards this has become a one-man department, owing to the introduction of +2. Since Tamil Nadu happens to be a non-Hindi speaking state only students from Central Schools and AngloIndian Schools opt for Hindi under Part I. Now-a-days, more students study Hindi in part I. B.Com., students also have to take part I language in I and II years. As new courses are introduced, in the evening college, every year, the strength is increasing in our department.
The department offers an additional course or job oriented course for the beginners. A great number of students join the course and they take part in the Inter-collegiate competition on Hind day. In the Sesqui Centenary year, Quiz, elocution and mime competitions were conducted at the inter-collegiate level for the first time in our college and the management, the department of Hindi and the students organize the same. Every year during Hindi week, we plan to organize inter-collegiate competitions.
Our Hindi students have occupied the highest positions in various organizations. Prof. T.P.Vanamamalai has retired as Hindi HOD in Jamal Mohamed College, who has studied in Hindi in 1947 in our College. Mr. S.Murali, who is employed in IOB, Tanjore has studied in our college from 1971-1976. Mr. Srinivasaraghavan and Mr. Jackson Joseph have joined in Bank of Baroda and LIC respectively.
